Mrs. Gabrielle Parente; a native Violist from Long Island, NY has made her mark on Boston, Cape Cod and Providence, Rhode Island’s music scene since her arrival in 2008 to study with Roger Tapping, late violist of the Juilliard String Quartet at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. After graduating with a B.A. in Viola Performance with honors Magna cum Laude from SUNY Stony Brook University and a Master’s Degree and Graduate Performance Diploma with Emphasis in String Pedagogy from the Longy School of Music, Gabrielle currently holds a private studio, teaches orchestra grades 4-8 in the Fall River, MA school district, a tenured section violist with Cape Symphony, professional violist & event contractor throughout New England, as well as Adjunct Professor of Strings at Providence College. When Gabrielle is not sharing her love for music with her adorning students, she is either cycling, practicing yoga, cooking epic meals or enjoying quality time with her husband, daughter and dog Leo.

In addition to her 20 years of teaching experience, Gabrielle is a dramatic and passionate performer who can interpret any style from J.S Bach and Brahms up to Bartók and Penderecki in the 21st century. She has worked with many prominent musicians such as, the Emerson String Quartet, Katherine Murdock, Roger Tapping, Dimitri Murrath, Eric Rosenblith, Karen Ritscher, the Pacifica Quartet, Colin Carr and Gil Kalish. Gabrielle has performed chamber, orchestral and solo concerts in Austria, Italy, Texas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Alaska, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The three main components of my teaching philosophy as an educator and mentor of music, begin with creating a comfortable and productive learning environment. Through getting to know each of my students with their varying personalities, and how best to inspire them, my goal is to be a supportive mentor that my students know they can always come to for advice about anything. Second, by creating a culturally sustaining environment in our classroom where I support the identity of all of my students without any bias, we not only learn how to discover our own identity, especially in my adolescent students, but also learn about the differences and variations between each other's culture. A third, and most important component of my teaching philosophy, is through getting to know my students well, I can appropriately scaffold and differentiate material. That way, I can understand how my students learn best, while also bringing awareness to them on how they learn best. As a result, my students will become independent learners as they advance academically.

Due to the “silver-lining" of skills educators and professional musicians developed during the pandemic, Gabrielle has evolved with the times and acquired music production skills that she taught during 2021-2022 school year in the Brookline public school district. These new tools allow Gabrielle to connect with her current generation, while also bridging the gap between “old” and “new” music & promoting music creativity.

Mrs. Parente is eager, inspired and motivated to shed light on the power of music to all she teaches and interacts with. Through this combination of performance and education, Mrs. Parente continuously gives back to her local communities, while broadening her repertoire and providing passionate community service.

Ciao!!!
